If you work with clients or families who know someone using opiates, including heroin, please inform them about life-saving Naloxone (brand name Narcan).
Make sure they know to call 911 if they believe someone is overdosing, and encourage them to have Naloxone on hand to reverse an overdose while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Many states have Good Samaritan laws, which provide immunity to help an overdose victim and the people who call it in.
Naloxone, brand-name Narcan, is a life-saving overdose-reversal medication. Many first responders now carry Naloxone, and it’s available to lay people in many communities. Learn more from the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation, which created Steve’s Law and is active in overdose prevention via training and distribution of Naloxone.
